What can I say? It seems a lifetime passed since when the first notes by WHITESNAKE, THIN LIZZY, METALLICA, MOTORHEAD, IRON MAIDEN, BLACK SABBATH, KISS, AC/DC, SCORPIONS, JUDAS PRIEST, OZZY OSBOURNE & RONNIE JAMES DIO did come out from the vinyl of the colored brand-new LPs bought in the lil' shop behind the corner in Turin 'n' spread in the air of the little room, that was going to become the first embryo of the PUMPKIN MUSIC recording studio. Was soon established a "blood-link", such as this encounter was just simply destiny, this way, on that LP player and in the following CD unit, flamming guitar's chords did follow from bands like W.A.S.P., HEART, GAMMA RAY, DEMON, ANTHRAX 'n' VAN HALEN, comfortably mixed with classics such as PINK FLOYD, QUEEN, DIRE STRAITS, THE EAGLES, GENESIS, U2, LYNYRD SKYNYRD, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, TOTO, the evergreen BEATLES 'n' the italian VASCO ROSSI, LIGABUE, STADIO, LITFIBA, CARMEN CONSOLI plus also ROXETTE, EVANESCENCE and WE ARE THE FALLEN. But, on all these very various musical influences, always and only one name did take control: MEGADETH !!! Is not possible to describe in few lines what it means to let your body be passed thru by the energetic waves of their music coming out from the rounds of their albums, neither is possible to easily tell about the feeling of playing those special guitars discharging the wrath, the tension 'n' the energy accumulated in our souls, with a series of breathless riffs cutting like razor's blades. Any how you think about it, it's really a unique experience! But let's go back to us... I've started to play in the now-far 1982, after being litterally shocked by the first IRON MAIDEN gig at the PalaRuffini in Torino, in 1981, playing as the supporting act for the KISS world tour. The first band joined, named STEEL ANGELS, introduced themselves as homage to the "New Wave Of British Metal", well known as Tallica's and Deth's first musical influence, in addition to an original liveset of self-composed songs, always inspired by the Heavy Metal style. After the final breaking of that line-up, which has after given birth to many other famous bands of the Torino underground-scene, I've decided to create my own first project, called PUMPKIN. In the beginning, it was only a matter of composing new songs, in a little "lighter" style, in english, trying desperately to "reach the success" in our home-country, after we've turned with decision to a live-set made of definitely Heavy Metal covers, bacause, yet since those times, the italian pub owners didn't like too much to support new "original ideas", preferring a surely quiter and economically safe easier money-making. Also this time there were plntiful cooperations with musicians well known in the years after in the underground scene of Torino and, after a lucky series of special guesting and new experiences, here's the birth of the first core of the PUMPKIN MUSIC, with the following, logical change of the band's name in ONYRIA and a clubs' tour through northern Italy, that lasted for a pair of seasons, as a tribute project dedicated to WHITESNAKE. In the following years, the band's line-up and live-set changed completely: first of all, beacuse of too short experiences with past drummers, I've chosen a drum-machine and I've decided to start finally tributing the motion pictures' musical history, with Rock soundtracks, with encouraging success from critic and audience! All these things lead to a further reduction of the line-up, to a simple duo, becoming a sort of guitar-bar and touring small venues around the world, leaving anyway, in my rebel heart, withdrawal symptoms for Metal... ;-P But here's coming the right occasion to turn on the old amplifiers, to plug-in again the beloved guitars with "razor" shapes and to dig out, one more time, all the wrath that this world often causes in your souls... Apart from bringing for 15 years AXTRA to work with MEGADETH's members themselves, plus many historical Metal bands, I have also reformed ONYRIA, in order to tribute THIN LIZZY and I've also witnessed the victory of my PUMPKIN project, appointed official italian EVANESCENCE tribute, directly by founder Amy Lee herself. These is great satisfaction, despite all the "ups and downs": you must only keep alive your love for the stage! :-) |
